Back in June
I posted about how I was started something I was calling Toddler School. Over the past few months it has evolved and has become a big part of our weeks. It is a lot more structured now than it was previously and we have a very specific focus with our learning. The activities are based on particular learning areas (LITERACY, which focuses phonics and pre-writing development; MATH, which focuses on counting and sorting; SCIENCE, which focuses on learning the colors, understanding concepts like living and non-living, sinking and floating, and so on; PHYSICAL EDUCATION, which focuses on balance and coordination; and ART, which focuses on creating art forms using a variety of mediums). Each week we do song-time, an activity, have a snack, and end with story-time. There are about 8 or 10 mothers (and about 10 or so two and three year olds) who come. Each week the mothers will volunteer for either doing song-time, an activity, bringing a snack, or doing story-time. It works really well and the mothers are really committed to the program.
I love it and look forward to it each week and so do the other mothers. We enjoying getting together with other mothers and it feels great to do educational things with our children.
