The weekend

So, this being Rob's last weekend in Utah, we hung out in SLC. Mostly it was just chilled - we watched a couple movies (including one of Rob's new favourites: The Ultimate Gift). We also went on a cool bike ride up City Creek Canyon. We cycle past the Capitol Building, which looks so majestic to me. The weather was great, although my hands froze when I took off my gloves. I'm looking forward to cycling around NC - Rob says it is really pretty and there are lots of trails and great places to ride.

When we got back we made a roast pork. It was yummy, but took far too long to cook. :) Anyway, in order to cook it according to my mother's recommendations, Rob created this little wire thing out of a coathanger so that it would just sit above the water in the dish. I was really impressed.

My design class

So this semester I'm taking the advanced design class with Dr Gibbons (chair of the IP&T dept). It is based on the idea of an instructional design studio - so, really practical where we are solving real problems. As a class (there are 10 of us in the class), we form a design team and we have been giving the task of designing for the Church History Museum. They currently have an outreach program where museum docents go into the local schools and teach fourth graders about Utah pioneers. They want to extend this to LDS people across North America and make it web-based. So, that is our task.

One thing a few of us did at the beginning of the semester was go to the Church History Museum in Salt Lake City. We took some photos while we were down there.

Anyway, I am the client liaison, meaning I am the one who contacts the client (a lady who works in the Church History Department), and I am the class scribe. The reason I volunteered for this latter responsibility was because I would get a livescribe pen. It is an AMAZING device. It was actually designed by a graduate of the IP&T department at BYU. So, our department were given some free pens and now I have one of them.

At the moment we are researching how we want the framework of our design to be - it is a really fun project, especially knowing it will eventually be used by members of the church all over the place.

Sunday in SLC

So, Rob is in the National Guard which means he volunteers as an officer once a month for a weekend. This weekend was that time. So, I came down to SLC nevertheless and we hung out when he got back. Tomorrow morning I head back to Provo though.

Today at church during Sunday School the lesson was on revelation and I shared an experience I had about 3 years ago where I had received some guidance from the Lord regarding His will for me. Then, during Relief Society a girl asks if she can sit next to me. She introduces herself and says she works for the Church Magazines Department, in particular the Liahona, and would like me to write up that experience for the magazine. She couldn't promise it would be published, but she would like me to write it up in case. She then asks if I know Greg. I tell her he is my brother and she says she is the one who edits all his pieces. She then related some of her favourite ones. She was really excited to learn that we are siblings though! haha!!
