Homeschooling

In our house we have a "school room." I love it! It is our room for doing just educational activities. I love it because before we'd do homeschooling-type activities at the dining room table and we'd have to pack away everything we were working on when we were done. But, we don't have to do that now. We just walk out the room and close the door.

In the room we have posters on the wall. The boys favorite poster is of the solar system. They want me to talk about the planets every day. Even at night when Luke prays, he expresses gratitude for the earth and the planets. (I want to get them a telescope for Christmas so they can look at the moon and plants.) In the room we also have three whiteboards and a pin board. We have a table Rob built for us and three chairs for it. Then we have two bookshelves with all the books and activities we have. 

We've been doing a bunch of random things at the moment, always ensuring that we work on some addition. This year my goals for the twins are to teach them to read, to have them be confident in addition and subtraction and basic multiplication, as well as higher numbers. Then I want Stephen to learn the letters. He can count to 10 and we've been working on the colors. 

It is fun, although sometimes Stephen or Abigail make it challenging. But they love it and most days they ask to do "school work." So we try and start school work right after breakfast, because otherwise it doesn't get done.
