| 20 weeks |
So Rob and I are having twins. Not in a million years would I have predicted that. I figured I just carried big. This is a picture of me at 20 weeks. A fair bit bigger than most people seem to be at 20 weeks.
We went to the doctor this morning and had my first ultra-sound. I was feeling very excited, but confident there was just one baby inside. The doctor squeezed huge amounts of gel all over my stomach and then began to move the little device to get an image and to my astonishment, there were two babies inside. I wouldn't believe it. I looked at Rob and the doctor then said, "You're having twins!" I cannot even describe the shock I experienced. Over and over I kept saying, "I cannot believe it!" I was laughing a lot. Rob was so calm - he wasn't surprised at all. He had guessed it was a strong possibility all along. The doctor then tried to see the babies' gender but could only make out a boy. We're not sure of the other because we couldn't get a good angle. So we'll probably find out at the next scan in 2 months time. He then took measurements and found they're both the right size and very healthy and active babies. My due date on May 25th at the moment (although that might change); however, he said that often twins are born about 3 weeks early so I'm thinking that maybe I'll give birth in early May. We'll see.
He told me that for the next while I need to take it easy and make sure I'm resting for about 3 hours in the middle of the day. Fortunately I sit at a computer all day everyday just about so that is ok. He just wants to make sure I don't go into labour too early...and resting will apparently help the babies develop more.
I can't wait for these two little ones to be born. I know it is going to be lots of hard work, but I'm excited. Plus, we'll have help. Rob's mom and my mom will be coming out.

Oh my goodness!!! Congrats! I'm sure you're overwhelmed, but excited as well. I hate being prego, so the two-for-one pregnancy seems kind of appealing! My sister-in-law just had twins, so I could put you in touch if you want to chat with her. (and they were also her first babies...). I'd love to get together soon!
Wow!! Thanks for all the updates and congrats on the twins. That is wonderful news! I guess they have already been born-- I hope they are a bundle of joy for you!
